Ca10Na(PO4)7: Eu2+, Mn2+ phosphors for ultraviolet light emitting diodes

2018
Abstract A series of Eu 2+ and Mn 2+ singly or doubly doped Ca 10 Na(PO 4 ) 7 (CNPO) phosphors synthesized by high temperature solid-state reaction route are studied for light emitting diode applications. Under the excitation of ultraviolet (UV) light, the Eu 2+ -single activated CNPO phosphors exhibit two intense and broad emission bands centered at 406 and 450 nm, and the relative emission intensity of these two emission bands depends on the variation of excitation wavelength and Eu 2+ content. Co-doping Eu 2+ and Mn 2+ is an effective approach to enhance the red emission of Mn 2+ . The energy transfer of Eu 2+ to Mn 2+ is responsible for the enhanced Mn 2+ luminescence. The tunable emissions of the Eu/Mn codoped CNPO phosphors are achieved via energy transfer process and changing the content of Mn 2+ . The CNPO:Eu 2+ , Mn 2+ phosphors reported here can be applied in UV-chip-based LEDs.
