Evaluación Psicológica en pacientes con obesidad mórbida incluidos en el programa de Cirugía Bariátrica del Hospital Universitario de la Princesa en Madrid.

2011
Background: The increase of prevalence in obesity in the last few years has become a difficult Public Health issue concerning bio-psycho-social factors. Objectives: The aim of the study is to analyse the results of a psychological assessment program in obese patients. Methods: A cohort of 108 patients (81 female and 27 male), with BMI higher than 40, completed a set of eating behaviour and psychopathological screening questionnaires. Results: Data analysis with SPSS 16.0 showed unhealthy eating attitudes, bulimic symptoms as well as anxiety and depression, body dissatisfaction and inefficacy feelings in the sample. Conclusions: The bidirectional relationship between obesity and psychopathological symptoms suggests the need of designing multidisciplinary and holistic approaches in its treatment.
