Synthesis and Characterization of Biodegradable Methyl Polychloroglycolic Acetate

2011
With using chloroacetic acid as the raw material, the polychloroglycolic acid(PCA) was synthesized by solution polycondensation.Further more, the methyl polychloroglycolic acetate(MPCA) was synthesized by the reaction between PCA and chloromethane. The effects of catalyst amount, reaction temperature and reaction time on the melting point of PCA and MPCA were investigated. The results showed that the melting points of PCA and MPCA would be 210℃ and 203℃ respectively when the reaction time was 4h,reaction temperature was 80℃ and the molar ratio of chloroacetic acid to triethylamine was 0.9.The FT-IR,XRD and DSC methods were used to study the structure, crystallinity and thermal properties of the PCA and MPCA.The degradation experiment in vitro showed that the weight loss rates of PCA and MPCA in PBS for 7 days were 89.5% and 68.6% respectively because of methyl terminal. And a slower degradation speed of MPCA was obtained which enhanced the stability.
