A magnetic frequency mixing sensor for mechanical properties measurement of ferromagnetic material

2020
Abstract A magnetic frequency mixing sensor was optimized and designed for mechanical properties measurement of ferromagnetic material. Three-dimensional finite element simulations have been carried out to investigate the influences of material and dimensions of magnetic core on the magnetic nonlinear response at mixing frequency. An optimal design of magnetic frequency mixing sensor was obtained by the condition of maximization and consistency of the amplitude of low-order magnetic frequency mixing components. The developed magnetic sensor had been used for hardness and plastic deformation measurement in ferromagnetic material. Experimental results showed that the sensor exhibited excellent performance for magnetic frequency mixing measurement, and the feasibility of mechanical properties measurement by magnetic frequency mixing techniques is demonstrated.
