2019
The objective of this research is to describe the ethnic diversity and the relations between the type, field of practice and level of motor expression present on Physical Education textbooks’ photographs. The society tends to be more globalized. It is important that this new trend be reflected on curricular material given to high school students in order to mitigate possible stereotypes related to the relationship between motor expression and ethnic characteristics. The sample has been formed by a total of 6773 photographs. Those images belong to 39 physical education textbooks published between 2006 and 2011. To the analysis of the content it was used an observation tool developed ad hoc. The pilot test, expert consultation and reliability test are scientific criteria that support the instrument. It was made univariant and bivariant analysis and applied Pearson’s Qui Squared Test with significance level of 5%. The results shown an obvious imbalance in ethnic diversity representation, focusing on Caucasian model. Also found differences between motor expressions’ representation in function of pictured ethnic group. Caucasian persons are shown in all kinds of expressions, different environments and far from elite sport practice. Nevertheless, other ethnic groups are associated with competitive sports and high competitive environments.
