Compliance of school chairs with anthropometric dimensions of pupils.

2005
A study has been carried out aimed at determining the compliance of anthropologic dimensions of the pupils from 1-8 grades of primary school with the dimensions of school chairs being in their daily use. The work included the sample of 561 pupils and four groups of furniture. Study centres were three primary schools in Zagreb. A descriptive statistics was made for all analysed variables. Study results have shown that one part of pupils’ population has not been using the furniture of appropriate dimensions and that currently supplied classroom equipment in two dimensions does not fit users’ classes. Therefore, the recommendation is given to introduce into schools four-height task chairs. The authors strongly suggest to everyone dealing with the subject matter and to the manufacturers of the furniture for academic institutions to ensure that such furniture is capable of being fitted to every user with respect to the age and physical characteristics.
