Preparation of high molecular weight radioiodinated alginic acid

A simple procedure is described for preparing125I-labelled alginic acid. The reducing terminal of alginic acid is derivatized with tyramine through the formation of Schiff base which is subsequently reduced with sodium cyanoborohydride. By radioiodination of the aromatic ring introduced,125I-labelled alginic acid was obtained with high specific activity.
