An Improved FCS-MPC Algorithm for Three-Phase Five-Level Hybrid-Clamed Converter

in this paper, an improved finite control set-model predictive control (FCS-MPC) of five-level hybrid-clamped inverter used in middle and high voltage systems is presented. The proposed control strategies reduce computation burden effectively, utilizing only 512 switching states which is one eighth of that used in a conventional FCS-MPC. The control objectives of regulation of dc-link voltage, ripple of inverter current, floating capacitor voltages balancing, and switching frequency minimization are included in the cost function. The performance at different operations are all evaluated. The performance of the proposed FCS strategy is proved in MATLAB/Simulink environment.
