A simple method for simulating groundwater table fluctuations in salt marshes

In this paper,the new variable PS/PT(the ratio of the saturated period to tidal period at a reference soil depth) is defined in order to better represent aeration conditions.A simplified tidal creek-marsh cross-sectional model is presented,and a simple method for simulating groundwater table fluctuations in salt marshes is introduced.The simulation results show that,whether the marsh platform is inundated or not,marsh plants can grow successfully near the tidal creek where the root aeration conditions are optimal.
