Self-contained in-borehole gas monitor apparatus for monitoring e.g. methane concentrations generated by landfill sites has gas sensors that carry out gas variable measurements to program a controller in operating the apparatus as desired

2008
NOVELTY - A controller/memory (54) is programmed to test a sample of gas built up in a borehole automatically and periodically. Gas variable measurements are carried out by the gas sensors to monitor the presence or absence of e.g. a particular gas. Data from measurements is stored in the controller/memory and is downloaded to program the controller in operating the self-contained in-borehole gas monitor apparatus (8) as desired. If a water detector detects the presence of water in the apparatus, a water detection signal is sent to the controller to deactivate the apparatus, USE - Self-contained in-borehole gas monitor apparatus for monitoring concentrations of methane and carbon dioxide generated by landfill sites. ADVANTAGE - The self-contained in-borehole gas monitor apparatus is easily deployed in a borehole to take periodic data readings of gas variables in the borehole. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is included for self-contained in-borehole gas monitor method. DESCRIPTION OF DRAWING(S) - The drawing shows the schematic cross-sectional elevation of an in-borehole gas monitor apparatus.
