Encapsulation of a fragrance molecule in zeolite X

2015
Abstract Nanotechnological approach has recently been introduced into fragrance applications. One of these strategies involves encapsulation of fragrances in zeolites to tailor products with controlled release properties. In this study, encapsulation/release of a fragrance molecule, triplal, has been studied using zeolite X as a fragrance carrier. Two phase-pure zeolite X products with different average particle diameters 20 μm and 4 μm were synthesized hydrothermally. The desorption kinetics of triplal in these two different zeolite X products was investigated to determine the effect of the particle size on the desorption process. The first order three-stage kinetics model results indicated that larger crystals had slightly lower desorption rate constants.
