Influence of Fault and Wind Turbine Type on Voltage Stability of IEEE 14 Bus System

2018
Due to the increasing share of renewable generation in the energy mix, demand for timely identification of weak buses and corrective actions is of prime importance in future power systems. This paper investigates the voltage and small signal stability of a Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG) and Squirrel Cage Induction Generator (SCIG) integrated into a standard IEEE 14 bus system. A synchronous generator in the standard IEEE 14 bus system is replaced with DFIG and SCIG to study the effects of wind turbine type on small signal stability of the system. Eigenvalues analysis was used to identify the weakest bus in the system. The behavior of the system under grid fault was also investigated. MATLAB based Power System Analysis Toolbox (PSAT) was used for simulation. The eigenvalues analysis used in this paper provide better insight for reliable operation of power system dominated by renewable generation.
