PRESSURE CHAMBER EXPERIMENTS FOR SPRAY MODEL DEVELOPMENT . INTEGRATED DIESEL EUROPEAN ACTION (IDEA) 1. AUTOTECH 89 SEMINAR PAPERS

1989
In order to study diesel engine mixture formation and ignition, systematic measurements of the local air fuel ratio, the gas and droplet velocity, the penetration, the cone angle and the evaporation ratio of a heptamethylnonane spray are described. The experiments were carried out in a pressure chamber with diesel engine like conditions (900 K, 50 bar) in co and cross flow air stream. Three different measurement techniques are involved: The local fuel air ratios are measured by an excimer laser-based pulsed spontaneous Raman system, the velocities by a modified LDV-system, the global behavior of the spray by Schlieren technique. Furthermore, the ignition behavior of a diesel fuel spray were also discussed. For the covering abstract for this volume of seminar papers see IRRD 832432.
