VALIDACIÓN DE LA ESCALA DE AUTOESTIMA AUTOE EN POBLACIÓN GENERAL DE LA CIUDAD DE BUENOS AIRES

2015
VALIDATION OF THE SELF-ESTEEM SCALE AUTOE IN GENERAL POPULATION OF BUENOS AIRES Aim: The aim of this study is to present the preliminary psychometric properties of the self-esteem scale Autoe in general population of Buenos Aires. Sample: The sample was composed of 171 adult persons, 86 men and 85 women. Instrument: The Autoe scale is based on the Rosenberg global selfesteem scale and it comprises 10 items. Results: A discriminant analyses of items was irst performed. Items 1 and 10 were removed due to their low discriminate power. A principal component factor analysis with varimax rotation was later executed. Two factors were extracted which explained the 45.1% of the total variance. The irst factor contained the positive items while the second factor included the negative ones, 6% and 19.1% of explained variance, respectively. Alphas coeficients were relatively adequate considering the low number of items: total, (a =.6 ), factor 1 (a =.61) and factor (a =.46). Finally the scale indicated that there were no signiicant differences between the scores of men and women. Discussion: The scale shows an adequate factorial structure similar to international previous studies but two items of the original scale had to be removed.
