The invention relates to a flat steel product that is intended for forming a component by hot press forming and which has an existing steel base layer, protective metallic protective layer is applied to one against corrosion, which is formed by Zn or a Zn alloy. This is inventively achieved in that a separate top layer is applied to at least one of the free surfaces of the flat steel product that contains an oxide, nitride, sulfide, carbide, hydrate or phosphate compound of a base metal. Moreover, the invention relates to a method which allows the production of such a flat steel product, and a method which enables the production of a component from such a steel flat product.
