YABANCI DİL OLARAK TÜRKÇE ÖĞRENENLERİN KARŞILAŞTIKLARI MOTİVASYON ENGELLERİ

2021
The aim of this study is to determine motivation obstacles experienced by learners of Turkish as a foreign language and to examine these obstacles according to different variables. Survey method was used in the research and the study group consists of 183 students learning Turkish as a foreign language in Turkey. In the study, “Motivation Obstacles Scale for Learners of Turkish as a Foreign Language” which was developed by Kikuchi and Sakai (2009) and adapted to Turkish by Altunkaya and Boylu (2020) was used as data gathering tool. In the analysis process, normality test was conducted first and Mann Whitney U and Kruskal Wallis H, which was one of the non-parametric tests was used in the analysis of data which did not indicate normal distribution. As a result of the research, it was found that motivation obstacles of the participants, who went through a language learning process in Turkey, were at medium level (2.54) and students mostly experienced obstacles regarding teacher’s efficacy and teaching styles. Also, it was found that as the time spent by learners in Turkey increases, the motivation obstacles that were experienced decrease, especially the ones caused by learners’ feelings. Based on these results, it was recommended to create a platform where problems are conveyed and solutions are produced in digital environments where instant and fast communication is established for teachers, and functional seminars based on online or face-to-face experience transfer by efficient persons.
