Preparation and Performance of Cerium Dioxide Film by Anodization and Heat Treating

2017
The cerium dioxide films were prepared with cerium foils as raw materials by anodization and heat treating method. The anodic cerium oxide films were heat treated at 120°C, 220°C and 320°C respectively. The cerium dioxide films were characterized with X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy-dispersive analyses of X-ray (EDAX), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) techniques and scanning electron microcopy (SEM), respectively. The anodic cerium oxide film is composed of Ce(OH)3, CeO2, Ce2O3, and Ce. As the anodic cerium oxide films were heat treated at 120°C and 220°C respectively, Ce(OH)3 and Ce in the anodic cerium oxide films may be converted to Ce2O3 or CeO2, and the heat treated films are composed of Ce2O3 and CeO2 respectively. As the anodic cerium oxide film was heat treated at 320°C, Ce(OH)3, Ce2O3 and Ce in the anodic cerium oxide film may be converted to CeO2. The heat treated anodic cerium oxide film at 320°C is the cerium dioxide film. The cerium dioxide film has strong absorption in the range of 1600~4000cm-1. The structure of the cerium dioxide film is the porous above and the dense layer below.
