Preparation of anhydrous LuBr_3

The preparation of anhydrous LuBr_3 by chemical vapor transport method is reported.Lu_2O_3 is the raw materials, a mixture of LuBr_3 and Al_2O_3 is formed as Lu_2O_3 reacts directly with Br and Al. (AlBr_3) is formed with excess amount of Al and Br_2. Vapor Al_2Br_6 forms at high temperature. It further reacts with LuBr_3 to obtain complex LuAl_3Br_(12). And the complex decomposes at low temperature. (LuBr_3) is separated form other solids at an proper temperature gradient.
