Recommended Speed Notification System for 2011/2012 Green Wave Field Operation Test

Generally, fuel consumption on general road is greatly influenced by idling and re-acceleration for stop by red traffic signal. Therefore, if the number of stops by traffic signal can be reduced, the large fuel consumption reduction can be expected. Recently, Japan has promoted an approach for the verification of the effect by green wave (GW) driving assistance which provides an appropriate speed to pass through several intersections in one main direction by using signal schedule data, and has decided to hold a field operation test (FOT) for GW.So, the authors enabled the GW driving assistance by extending the function based on a recommended speed notification system which they have developed previously, and then evaluated the feasibility and the functional effectiveness of this system during the GW FOT. In this paper, the authors report the extended function of the system and the result of the FOT.
