Canadian mill uses expert system to optimize dryers and press section

A Canadian mill is using an on-line expert system - based on multi-variable analysis - to optimise complex processes in dryers and press section. The system monitors machine performance using 120 process inputs via the existing data acquisition system (PI), and it generates information through diagnosis to help operators rectify deviant operating conditions. The Canadian system is an embryo of future multi-variable analysers, and with time such systems will elevate papermaking to new levels of expertise.
