Uji Penggunaan Radio Transmitter pada Berang-Berang Cakar Kecil Aonyx cinereus (Illiger, 1815) di Persawahan Kecamatan Lubuk Alung

2017
This field experiment was conducted from March to August 2016 in traditional rice fields at Lubuk Alung, West Sumatra. The purpose of this experiment was  to examine the suitable use of radio transmitter  at a small-clawed otter ( Aonyx cinereus ) as the smallest otter species in the world. The transmitter was implanted intraperitonneally. Small-clawed otter was caught immediately after capture using life trap. Data were analyzed by descripting physical conditions and radio tracking movement after being released in rice fields. Physical condition and ranging behavior were monitored by using receiver. We applied the transmitters to two adult males. One male died soon after implantation and another male was succesfully detected for 28 hours as far as 200 m from releasing point. We describe physical condition from life trapping, implanting process and after release. This experiment showwed ineffective use of radio transmitter to the  A. cinereus , although several subjects may be required.
