Torque Profile Optimization in Switched Reluctance Motor

2019
This paper explores the relationship between the rotor and stator geometries with the static torque characteristics of a Switched Reluctance Machine (SRM). As case studies, symmetric quasi-rectangular grids, small circular drill holes and various rotor arcs are introduced to the rotor and stator to gauge their impact on torque profile. Optimal designs corresponding to each method are selected among all the permutations of possible combinations of design parameters which has the lowest torque ripple while maintaining the same or higher average torque compared to the original design. This has been accomplished by introducing a new objective function for torque. Analyses of torque profiles for both original and optimal designs are performed using finite element method (FEM).
