Distributed generation and energy storage systems

In this chapter, several technologies applied in generation using DERs are going to be presented. The renewable energy resources or technologies that will be discussed in terms of basic operational principles include solar energy, wind generation, small hydropower plants, and energy storage. Distributed energy resource (DER) is the name given to any generation units that are based in renewable energies of low-power capacity, and usually connected to a feeder, near to the user. Larger units known as "distributed generation (DG) units" are often connected to the transmission system at the point of interconnection.
