A preliminary survey of the Sarsen and Puddingstone blocks of the Chilterns

1953
Abstract Large boulders (not glacial erratics) of three kinds are found in the Chilterns: (1) Sarsens, evenly distributed, with two gaps; (2) Hertfordshire Puddingstones, extending from Hertfordshire into Buckinghamshire, as far as Chesham, with a few beyond overlapping the area of (3) Bradenham Puddingstones. Some Sarsens are pot-holed. Evidence is given of transport by human agency both in pre-historic or early historic and in modern times.
