Analysis and Experiment on Deformation of Sheet Metal by Laser Shock Wave

The mechanism of laser shock deformation and the reason of producing the shock wave are introduced.The deformation model for the sheet metal by the laser shock is established,and the calculation formula for its deformation magnitude is deduced.The evaluation formula of the detonation wave pressure in the system of laser,energy transfer medium and the metal target is built according to the detonation wave and the explosive gas dynamical theory.The energy of the laser pulse is evaluated based on the formula of the laser shock pressure.And relationships among the sheet metal deformation,the laser energy and the shock wave pressure are discussed.Experimental results show that the effects of the thickness of sheet metal on the deformation magnitude are similar to the theory model for deformation.Its deformation magnitude decreases in the index curve with the increasing thickness,and its outline is also gradually changed into the small ball coronal from the small cone.
