DRw6: Antigen Report of the Cellular Studies of the Tenth International Histocompatibility Workshop

1989
At present, DRw6 has been subdivided into four cellularly defined specificities, Dw18 plus Dw19 (associated with DRw13) and Dw9 plus Dw16 (associated with DRw14). Each of the DRw6-associated DR and Dw subtypes (DRw13, DRw14, Dw9, Dw16, Dw18, and Dw19) could be distinguished using the Tenth Workshop T-cell clones (Fig. 1). The entire serologically defined DRw14 group was recognized by clone 6055, which was inhibited by anti-DR antibodies. This clone also exhibited reactivity with Dw1 cell lines and one DR4 cell line(9092) which clustered with the Dw14 cell lines in these cellular studies. The DRw14;Dw9 subgroup was recognized by clone 6024 (HLA-DR specific), which was limited in its reactivity solely to this Dw type, being nonreactive with cell lines from the DRw14;Dw16 cluster. None of the Workshop clones exhibited patterns of reactivity exclusively limited to the Dw16 subgroup. The Dw16 cell lines could readily be separated from the other DRw6 cell lines, however, by T-cell clones with broader patterns of reactivity. Several clones recognized DR1 and/or DR2 together with Dw16 cell lines, often with recognition of DR4 subsets as well.
