Application of some Solar Passive Concepts to Create more Energy Efficient Studio Apartment

2017
The main objective of this paper is to investigate the impact of three passive concepts (orientation, thermal insulation and compactness) on both thermal comfort conditions and energy needs. The assessment criteria will be based on the indoor temperature, relative humidity and the required energy consumption expressed in Kwh/m 2 , As a result, in the winter season, on average, 1.4485 °C can be saved. In summer, these techniques allow us to save on average 6.0291 °C for the previous case study. The application of these passive concepts allows us to save more than 69 % of the energy originally used. This construction is an energy-intensive studio apartment; energy needs were more than 450 KWh/m 2 /year “type G”. With regard to some measures, this type of construction will join the buildings that have an energy label of “type D”.
