Introduction The Rocky Flats Nuclear Weapons Facility, located 16 miles northwest of downtown Denver, Colorado, has been the source of thousands of jobs and the consequent economic impacts for more than four decades. In this sense it has contributed to the economic base of the metropolitan area. At the same time, it has processed some extremely dangerous materials and thereby existed as a source of risk to nearby residents and properties.
