Overdenture: implantando sorrisos em projeto de extensão: relato de caso

Devido a fatores economicos, sociais e culturais, as pessoas ao longo do tempo perdem seus dentes ainda jovens, e boa parte dessas pessoas ja foi submetida a terapia com dentaduras. Porem, outras sequer tiveram condicoes de acessar esta alternativa terapeutica. Ao longo dos anos, os processos alveolares (especialmente os inferiores) sofreram reabsorcao e, hoje, essas pessoas, ja na terceira idade, nao dispoem de estrutura ossea capaz de promover estabilidade as suas proteses (quando as possuem), ficando, consequentemente, prejudicadas em sua funcao mastigatoria, em sua fonacao, e em seu convivio social pela impossibilidade de uso da dentadura inferior, causando-lhe prejuizo estetico e, muitas vezes, psicologico em razao da baixa autoestima, alem de exigirem um trabalho maior do aparelho digestivo no tratamento do bolo alimentar ingerido sem a adequada mastigacao. Os projetos de extensao universitaria representam, na essencia do termo, a projecao que a instituicao de forma geral e os componentes desta, de forma individual, estabelecem com o meio social onde estao inseridos, instaurando um ciclo de retroalimentacao, teoricamente positivo, que justificaria a existencia da Universidade na sociedade. Nao se conceitua a Universidade que nao exerce o seu papel transformador dentro da sociedade O presente trabalho objetiva mostrar atraves de apresentacao de um caso clinico de overdenture sobreimplantes, a importância dos projetos de extensao envolvendo parcerias institucionais na melhoria da qualidade de vida da populacao (AU) Due to various factors, including the economic, social and cultural perspective, many people ended up losing their teeth at a young age and good parts of these people underwent therapy with dentures. Others were even able to access this alternative therapy. Over the years, the alveolar processes (especially the lower) showed resorption and now these people, because the elderly do not have the bone structure that promotes stability of their prostheses (when have one), being thushindered in its function mastication, in his speech and in their social life by the impossibility of using the lower denture, causing disfigurement and psychological often because of low self-esteem, and require a greater work of the digestive tract in the treatment of swallowed bolus without proper chewing.The university extension projects represent the essence of the term, the projection that the institution in general and components that, individually, lay with the social environment where they fit, introducing a feedback loop, positive theory, would justify the existence University of society. Not that conceptualizes the University shall not exercise its transformative role in society This paper aims to show through the presentation of a clinical case of overdenture implant the importance of the extension projects involving institutional partnerships to improve the quality of life (AU)
