Software quality standards in practice: the limitations of using ISO-9001 to support software development

Quality management standard BS5740/ISO9001 is a key technology for UK and Europe in the 1990s. This paper shows that the relevance of BS5750/ISO9001 is limited and suggests that standards bodies must develop and endorse new standards to ensure that software quality improvement programmes continue to be adopted by the information technology industry.
