Competition between fractional quantum Hall liquid and Wigner solid at small fillings: Role of layer thickness and Landau level mixing

The authors find signatures of magnetic-field-induced Wigner solids at small Landau level filling factors in two-dimensional electron systems confined to AlAs quantum wells.
