Advances in the Study on STK15 Gene

2006
STK15 is a serine/threonine kinase extensively existing in eukaryotic cells. It is implicated in G2/M transition and can promote the centrosome maturation and microtubule nucleation via recruiting nucleation maturation factors, ensure and maintain the formation biopolar spindle and the even distribution of chromosomes into two daughter cells.STK15 was found to overexpress in a variety of malignant tumors that are asssociated with the centrosome amplification, aneuploidy, cell transformation and it is also related to the biological behavior of tumor.Blocking plk1 expression can inhibit the growth of tumor cells.STK15 may serve as a new candidate target for tumor therapy.
