The Bovine Neutrophil: Separation and Partial Characterization of Plasma Membrane and Cytoplasmic Granules

Bovine neutrophils are a convenient material for biochemical studies since they can be obtained easily in large quantities. We report here some of the biochemical and functional properties of these cells. In contrast to the neutrophils thus far described, bovine neutrophils contain three distinct types of cytoplasmic storage granules and exhibit powerful oxygen-independent antibacterial properties.
