Learning to value biodiversity

Summary Human civilisations were built on agriculture, the systematic reduction of biodiversity for the exploitation of a few selected species. It took many centuries for us to realise that, alongside our food production, biodiversity is also necessary for our survival and in need of protection. Michael Gross reports.
