Sorghum: Harvest, Storage, and Transport

2016
Sorghum is an important crop of the developing world, with 60% of the crop being harvested in Africa. The total sorghum area harvested in India and Africa was 76% in 2012. Harvesting is done manually or by combine, prior to storage. Storage structures and transport mechanisms are varied; however, there is room to further reduce postharvest losses. The crop is usually grown by smallholder farmers, largely for domestic consumption. Commercial producers use trucks, rail, and barge for grain movements to domestic and foreign markets.
