Validation of CFD and Turbulence Models for a Confined Double Annular Jet

2005
Different turbulence models (algebraic Baldwin -Lomax, one -equation Spalart Allmaras and the k- turbulence models of Chien, Launder -Sharma and Yang -Shih) are compared for the complex turbulent flow of an axisymmetric confined double annular jet. The database contains 2D LDV -measurements of 5515 grid points in the meridional plane, including mean axial and radial velocities, Reynolds stresses and their axisymmetry errors. After a grid dependence study, predicted velocities, turbulent kinetic energy, and specific position points of the several toroidal vortices and stagnation points are compared wit h the empirical data. All models appear to predict the global flows features correctly, although the Yang Shih k- turbulence model follows better the small scale flow properties.
