Novel road network traffic flow simulation model based on O-D estimation

Obtaining the dynamic information of urban traffic evaluation according to travel demand is very necessary for transportation governing. This paper presents a novel road network traffic flow simulation model. Based on gravity method of O-D(Origin-Destination)estimation, complex network theory and link resistance model, a road network model is constructed. In addition, on the assumption that reasonable people often select a path with minimum link resistance as their travel path, a mapping algorithm is presented to map travel demand to traffic flow on road network. Taking advantage of discrete event simulation method, a simulation prototype system on PC is implemented. Experimental results indicate that this simulation system can simulate the dynamic evolution of traffic flow and the state of road network in real time way based on travel demand changes, and then the effectiveness of the model is validated.
