Looking at insect-plant relationships : the Table Mountain Beauty

One of the most striking relationships that exist between plants and insects must surely be that of the large, showy butterfly, the Table Mountain Beauty Aeropetes tulbaghia and the rare and lovely ground orchid, the red disa Disa uniflora. However, the real value of the relationship is not merely in its aesthetic appeal, but lies in the fact that the butterfly is the sole pollinator of this flower, which has such a limited distribution in South Africa.
