Heating a glasshouse not using greenhouse gases

2011
When considering the heat source for its new glasshouse capable of holding up to 10 million plants, HVP Plantations weighed up the benefits of a gas fired system with a capital cost of $60,000 compared to a 'wet sawdust' fired system at $280,000. A no-brainer, you would have thought. But before committing to either system, HVP, Australia's largest plantation owner, analysed the availability of the two fuel types, and their long term price security, efficiency and yearly supply costs.
