Commercial experience with FLEXSORB SE absorbent

1986
Removal of hydrogen sulfide from gas streams is an essential processing step in petroleum refining, natural gas production, and petrochemical operations. Many technologies have achieved commercial status, each giving a balance for a particular set of circumstances among process requirements, operability, flexibility, and economic factors. This presentation describes the development of FLEXSORB SE absorbent, an Exxon gas treating reagent for selective removal of hydrogen sulfide. The process uses a unique ''hindered amine'' gas treating agent with a molecular structure specifically tailored to have high capacity to absorb H/sub 2/S selectively in the presence of high concentrations of CO/sub 2/.
