Reed-Solomon error and erasure correction for PAM/FM mobile radio systems
1988
FEC (forward error correction) coding and adaptive equalization are two signal processing techniques necessary to improve performance of digital land mobile radio systems. Here, interleaved RS (Reed-Solomon) block codes are used and a novel error and erasure correction technique is suggested. Performance is analyzed by computer simulation and compared against the simple error correction strategy, considering a 4-level PAM/FM (pulse amplitude modulation/frequency modulation) with frequency discrimination detection in a narrowband mobile radio channel with Gaussian noise, Rayleigh amplitude fluctuations, and random frequency modulation noise. >
