Vehicle-mounted radiological equipment can be used in a variety of ways to identify and diagnose houses with radon problems. Some of the capabilities can be duplicated using modern portable electronic devices, but not all. In some cases the presence of a vehicle is needed due to the weight of shielding required or the presence of generators, computers, and other equipment for more sophisticated analyses.
