The Royal Yacht Britannia: Inside the Queen's Floating Palace

1998
"Britannia", used as a royal residence and for the promotion of British commercial interests overseas, is the most famous ship in the world. Since being launched in 1953 she has sailed more than 1 million miles, visited 135 countries and called at 600 ports. Yet unlike royal palaces ashore, Britannia is never opened to the public and very little is known about her and the men who sail her. With the co-operation of the officers and crew, this book offers a behind-the-scenes look at how "Britannia" operates. It provides a detailed tour of the ship, including the State apartments, and royal and crew accommodation, together with descriptions of the royal furnishings, decor and art treasures. The author also lists technical data and principal voyages, together with the cost of building, equipping and running the ship.
