2019
This thesis aims to analyze the attitude toward religion of the author, focusing on “Grand Inquisitor” and “The Russian Monk” in respective volume 5 and 6 of The Brothers of Karamazov. Further, it scrutinizes the influence of imagery of the religious segment in the literature on the character education. “Grand Inquisitor” insightfully displays the limitation of human nature, and “The Russian Monk” is devised with artistic response to that. The latter adduces the indispensable connotation of sin, further suggesting miraculous approach for humans to overcome the wrongdoing, and to forgive and love each other. It is the inherent image of the God within human, known as liberty. Therefore, the Russian author proposes that a research towards human essence is an investigation on the God, and a fundament for essentializing the existence as the moral subject.
