HIRF Broadband Full-Wave Virtual Testing and Experimental Validation

2021
This manuscript reports a broadband full-wave virtual testing with experimental validation of a high intensity radiated fields (HIRF) environment, using a 4 m-long composite aircraft (CFC) prototype of a first stage aircraft fuselage. A numerical methodology based on finite-element method (FEM) and method of moments (MoM) is proposed for efficiently predicting HIRF assay results from 200 MHz to 9 GHz for the first time in literature. Experiments under real conditions and using typical HIRF assays components successfully endorse the proposed approach, with the purpose of significantly saving time and money in the aeronautical industry, as a result of using accurate numerical simulations before the HIRF certification processes.
