Perdanga is a concrete plant in Klaipeda to be found between Konigsberg (Kaliningrad/Russia) and Riga (Latvia) on the Baltic coast of Lithuania in the heart of the Baltic States. Klaipeda is also a seaport that is ideal in its location as a future market area for the Baltic States. Lithuania, as have the other Baltic States, has understood that they have to adapt very quickly to the demands from Europe and implement these requirements with all consequence. Lithuania for example, has utilized the economically strategic location of Klaipeda and, with the support of the EU, has redeveloped and expanded the port under great pressures of time within the scope of its infrastructure. Tenders were invited for a new container terminal worth DM 95 millions - concrete sett was used as the ideal means for fixation in the port for transportation routes and securing the bed, 160,000 m 2 of concrete paving together with the corresponding quantities of curbstone for the borders. This international prestige object shall be completed by the end of 1998. The contract for this work was awarded to Perdanga. Founded in 1961 as a concrete precasting plant according to the requirements of the time for a controlled economy, the company was one of the first to change its form to that of a stock corporation after the East opened its doors to market economy. 200 qualified employees are employed by AB Perdanga, not only for the manufacture of precast parts, concrete block and ready-mixed concrete ; the company has also specialized in producing a variety of technical gases such as acetylene and carbon dioxide.
