A method for determining a product of heat capacity and density (Cp · ρ) of a gas or a gas mixture (2) or a value derived therefrom by means of a thermal sensor (1), in particular of a thermal flow sensor comprising the steps of: - determining the thermal conductivity (λ) of the gas or the gas mixture (2); - determining a flow rate (Q) of the gas or the gas mixture (2) based on the specific thermal conductivity (λ); - Determination of the product of heat capacity and density (Cp · ρ) of the gas or the gas mixture (2) or a derived value based on the determined thermal conductivity (λ) and the determined flow rate (Q).
