VARIATIONS IN THE PERMEABILITY OF SOILS IN VARIOUS NATURAL ZONES

1974
Data has been analyzed to establish the nature of the distribution curves of soil permeability by computing the measure of kurtosis and the index of skewness for 3 experiments with 50 or more replications. Three distribtuions out 6 to the power 6 were found to be very skewed and 3 moderately skewed. The histograms of the distribution of these experiments, as well as a statistical estimate of the differences between the distribution curves and the normal distribution curve showed that the moderately skewed curves can be regarded as having a close to normal distribution. The other 3 curves have the form of an exponential distribution. Subsequent analysis are discussed in which histograms of distribution for another 8 experiments with 18 or more replications were constructed. Studies in the forest and forest - steppe zones are detailed.
