Analysis of Liquid Water and Water Vapor time series and rainy period detection from a two channel microwave radiometer

2014
In this paper the first step towards the development of a total attenuation time series generator is presented. In particular, we focus on the characterization of the Liquid Water and Water Vapor Contents time series and on the identification of the embedded rainy periods. The main database used for this task is constituted by 7 years of measurements by a two-channel microwave radiometer at 23.8 and 31.6 GHz. The criterion for the detection of rainy samples is based on the intersection of three ancillary databases, which detect different rain characteristics. The similarity in the annual and daily trend of Liquid Water and Water Vapor Content is also assessed.
