A Miniaturized Log-Periodic Antenna For SKA LFAA

2021
The Square Kilometer Array (SKA) is the largest international program in radio astronomy, and the main technical indexes of the Low-frequency Aperture Array (LFAA) are ultra-wideband, dual-polarization, sparse array, low cost, easy processing, low loss. A miniaturized log-periodic antenna is designed and manufactured for SKA LFAA. By bending the ordinary dipole to form a closed rectangular ring structure, the lateral size of the antenna is reduced to 80% of the ordinary log-periodic antenna. The structure, simulation method and results, engineering design of the antenna are introduced in detail. the improved design direction is proposed based on the test results of the antenna element samples, which has a strong engineering application value.
